Robert Samuel Short, Sr.
Several months prior to his marriage in 1945, Robert Short went into the automotive repair business in Wilmington, Delaware. His first tow truck consisted of a hand operated winch installed on a 1931 Buick automobile chassis and, over the years, he has designed and built a number of innovative pieces of towing and recovery equipment. Today, the fleet includes two HD Oshkosh cranes, flatbeds, rollbacks, low boy trailers, air cushion recovery set and other related equipment.
Robert Short was a charter member of ITA, is a member of TRAA and the Delaware Towing Association. In 1977, he was instrumental in organizing the first ever Tow Show for the Delaware Towing Association. He has been aptly described by his competitors as a “fellow who helps fellow tow people and is deserving of any recognition that could be bestowed on him”.
