Alex Robb
Alex Robb was born April 28 1934 in Bellshill, Scotland. He left school at the age of 16 and spent another 12 months at the school of engineering prior to beginning a five year apprenticeship to become a qualified engineering draughtsman. Shortly after completing his qualification Alex was called upon to fulfill his commitment and serve in His Majesties Armed Forces being accepted into the Royal Air Force. Due to the high cost of training the RAF only accepted 2% of national service applicants and Alex was lucky enough to be chosen to service aircraft trades, engines and airframes. He had a successful time in the RAF working on Rolls Royce Avon engines which was the frontline pure jet of the time. He joined the 20th Fighter Squadron and was assigned to the Second Allied Tactical Airforce stationed in Oldenburg, Germany at the height of the cold war. After being offered a position with Rolls Royce he decided he had been away from Scotland for too long and returned home. After several years Alex received an offer from his first employer and in 1961 returned back which is where he would begin his career in the industry and purchase his first tow truck. Over the years the towing and recovery side of the business grew to become a major component and when the AVRO was founded Alex quickly became a member.
He has held numerous positions in the Scottish region and was promoted to Regional Chairman and then National Council Member for Scotland. IN 2007 Alex and a group of operators decided to leave AVRO and form their own independent Scottish Recovery Association for which Alex was elected Chairman and continues to serve as such to this day. His leadership and guidance along with level headed approach has benefited Scotsman in his industry for more than 50 years. He has been a longtime proponent of safety and training for all in Europe.
Alex is also a member of the Institute of Motor Industry UK and the Guild of Master Craftsman. In 1976 Alex was recognized as the Recovery Towman of the Year UK. He is married to his wife Kathleen and together they have raised two wonderful daughters over the last 4o plus years.
