On graduation from high school, Art entered the apprenticeship program and gained his Class “A” Motor Mechanics License.  He has been associated with the towing and recovery business for the last 42 years.

Twenty nine years ago he purchased his own business and has operated McCaffrey’s Garage and Towing.  His sons, Rob and Rick, along with daughter Theresa and wife June are actively involved in this family business.  Art’s first truck was a 1946 Ford one ton with a hand crank winch.

His fleet consists of 4 heavy duty recovery units, one well equipped air cushion recovery van with jacks, come-alongs, tools, lighting and the necessary equipment needed on a heavy recovery, one 5 ton tilt-n-load truck, and two one ton tow trucks.

Art likes to restore antique cars.  He has a collection of six fully restored cars and is presently restoring an antique Holmes wrecker.  He organizes a memorial golf tournament in memory of his deceased son that was killed in a snowmobile accident.  All of the proceeds of the golf tournament are donated to local community sports associations.  He serves on the Municipal Township Planning Advisory Committee.  He is an active sponsor of minor sports in the local community.  Art built (invented) a barge type unit on pontoons.  This machine moves over ice or open water and it has electric winches.  During the ice fishing season, on the lakes around Belleville, vehicles are driven out onto the lakes.  Every winter a few vehicles go through the ice to the bottom of the lake and Art recovers them.  Art is an expert on heavy recovery and is called by the Police and transport companies several miles from his base when extra know how is required.
