Janetta R. Bowman
Elected: April 14, 2000
Inducted: September 22, 2000
Janetta R. Bowman was born in Cadiz, Kentucky in 1947. She came into the towing and recovery business through her marriage to Arden Bowman, Jr., whose parents owned and operated a wrecker service in Nashville, Tennessee.
Soon after her marriage to Arden, Janetta assumed responsibility for the office and administrative duties associated with the family owned wrecker service. In that role she became known as “mom” to all the drivers and was to pen regular articles in Tow Times that were entitled “Message From Mom”. Janetta went on to help form the Tennessee Towing and Recovery Professionals, a state towing association in which she was to serve as Executive Secretary for 15 years. She became a major force in the association, sending out newsletters, promoting membership and serving as Co-Chairman for their annual tow show. Indeed, some said Janetta was the “backbone” of the TTRP. In 1998, the Bowman’s sold their company and Janetta stayed until the fall of 1999.
Although now retired, she remains active in industry and community affairs. Over the years, Janetta has sponsored church youth activities, including retreats, trips and devotionals hosted in their home. Each year she adopts an “Angel” which is another way of saying she sees that the less fortunate are remembered with a gift at Christmas. One year, she adopted all of the unclaimed angels listed at a local restaurant so that none would be forgotten on Christmas.
Janetta Bowman has set an enviable record for others to follow in each of her professional, community and personal lives and is respectfully submitted for induction into the towing and recovery hall of fame.
