Born: January 27, 1952 in Teaneck, New Jersey
Steve and his wife Norma have no children, however, Steve is raising two sons from a former marriage. Their names are Steven and Henri with the latter involved with the American Towman magazine business.
Although not a tower himself, Steve has brought credit and honor to thousands of towers across North America and beyond through his magazine, the American Towman, Exposition, Hero Medal, Towman’s Commendation and others. Following is a chronology of key events in Steve Calitri’s support of the towing and recovery industry.
1982 – Purchased American Towman Magazine
1989 – Started American Towman Expositions
1989 – Introduced American Towman Hero Medal
1989 – Introduced American Towman’s Commendation
1989 – Started Festival Night
1990 – Saluted Recovery Masters
1990 – Saluted Towman 500 Most Experienced Towers in America
1992 – Honored ACE Awards
1992 – Started National Road Service Commission
1996 – Developed Towman’s Bill of Rights
1996 – Organized National Towing Alliance
1999 – Commissioned Towman Monument
2000 – Offered Ranger Salute
2001 – Started American Towman Festival
2001 – Introduced Tow Truck Nationals
2001 – Honored Hero’s of the September 11th Tragedy
2001 – Presented Grand Mural, Towing Industry on Canvas
Steve is the first person to have created so many ways to recognize and honor towmen for heroic events, or simply for a job well done. But more importantly, Steve has recognized towers for what they do day in and day out and makes them feel good about themselves. It has been said that Steve has brought the industry up another notch and that makes us all better. Steve now resided in Warwick, New York.

Tow Equipment/Product Innovation
Innovation of a product sold in the marketplace that has helped move the industry forward. Candidate must have a minimum of 10 years of service to the industry.
Exemplary Dedication
Candidate must have 20 years running a towing business in an outstanding and exemplary manner, promoting a positive image of the towing industry and have positive relations with the community, i.e., performing services for the community about and beyond the services for hire. Limit: One inductee per year.
Industry Leadership
Leadership involved with an outstanding project that has had a dynamic and lasting effect on the towing industry. Candidate must have minimum 10 years service to the towing industry.
Professional Achievement
Creating a product or service of any kind that has had a significant and lasting effect on thousands of towing professionals. Candidate Must have a minimum of 10 years to the industry.
