Alan Gregg

Al Gregg was born June 13, 1948 in Rushville, Nebraska, the 6^th child of Robert & Theresa Gregg.  Al was married in 1967, and to this union came his children, Bobbie, Jeff & Teri who have made him the grandfather of seven.  On March 22, 2003 Al married his longtime companion and partner, Carol Rettkowski.
After graduating from high school, Al became a mechanic and tow operator for a GM dealer.  In 1982, Al started Dakota Service and Repair and added the towing end of the operation in 1984.  All of Al’s children were involved in the shop as “Dad’s Helpers” in their very young years.  Al became active in the South Dakota Professional Towing Association in 1988 and has served as president and is currently the South Dakota Director of Education, Legislative Committee Member and TRAA Delegate.
Al is a strong advocate of tower education and is involved with the TRAA Education and takes part in TRAA Level III driver certification testing.  One of Al’s goals is to see more towers attend classroom seminars and any other form of training available.  Al has been the proud recipient of the TRAA 2004 President’s Award and the 2005 South Dakota Distinguished Service Award.
Al “is” Santa Claus at the local abuse shelter and local elder care homes.  He supports the local DARE program, Circle K Club, and has donated vehicles to the high school for demonstrations in efforts to raise alcohol awareness.  Al was recently recognized by the Brookings Fire Department for his many years of generous support of their training programs.
Despite the strains on Al’s time he still manages to find time to rebuild and re-engineer his tow trucks.
Al plans to continue operating his company, supporting education in the towing industry and still appreciates the day that Carol told him to “get a life and enjoy himself”.
