Lloyd R. Yates

Lloyd was born on March 26, 1918 in Ringgold, Georgia.  He is married to Maxine Yates and they currently live in Ringgold where they have made their home for many years.  Lloyd is the father of seven children, three of which are in the towing industry.
In 1946, Lloyd began the pursuit of his dream to own his own towing and repair shop.  At that time, there were very few towing companies in Chattanooga.  Previously, Lloyd had worked as chief mechanic at Newton Chevrolet in Downtown Chattanooga so he had the mechanical know-how.  He opened his first shop on Highland Park Avenue and eventually moved his shop to East 23rd Street.
Lloyd’s three sons were raised in the towing repair industry and ran the shop for years under Lloyd’s guidance.  In the early 1970’s, he gave each of the boys a large wrecker.  They worked together for a while before going in their own direction.  Today the boys run three separate businesses in the Chattanooga and North Georgia area.  Doug runs Yates Towing & Recovery in Chattanooga, Guy runs a towing and recovery company out of Ringgold, Georgia and Don owns Battlefield Collision in Ft. Olgethorpe, Georgia.  Lloyd’s three grandsons are also in the towing industry.
Lloyd helped write the first towing ordinance in Chattanooga, much of which is still in effect today.  Throughout the  years, Lloyd has been used by Holmes Wrecker Manufacturer to test their products.
As for the future, Lloyd is content to watch his sons and grandsons pursue their dreams of owning and operating their own towing and recovery companies.
