Timothy J. Vibert

Timothy J. Vibert was born and raised in Farmington, CT one of eleven children and grew up dreaming to be a fireman as most young boys did. In between chasing sirens and scrambling  to the window to watch the trucks race by Tim spent his time working on cars and pumping gas at the family Shell Station in town. In high school he was known for helping the teachers by fixing their cars in his free time but never in an effort to get that passing grade! After high school Tim moved on to serve his country, enlisting in the Air Force and was stationed at Whiteman Air Force base in Missouri for four years before returning home to join his brothers in the newly created family business Farmington Motor Sports. FMS grew to become a full service garage and towing company servicing commercial, retail and law enforcement customers on a daily basis.  Tim is married to his wife Laura and has three children Michael, Patrick and Jennifer whom all work in the family business and of which two of them have followed Tim’s dream and become fire fighters themselves. After joining the Farmington volunteer fire department in 1978 Tim has moved on through the ranks and became Chief of the Department in 2006, a position he continues to hold today. In 1996 Tim was honored with several awards including “Fire Fighter of the Year” and received the annual “Chiefs Award” recognizing his dedication and service to the community for fostering training and education and developing a vehicle extrication course. In July of 2005 Tim responded to a major vehicle accident with multiple fatalities and over 19 vehicles involved, after arriving on the scene Tim entered a rolled over vehicle with severely injured trapped occupants and for over an hour administered first aid while coordinating the extrication of the occupants resulting in an official Commendation from the Governor of the State of CT. Oddly enough in the last two weeks both of Tim’s sons Patrick and Michael were recognized for forcefully entering a burning home while passing by off duty and saving the life of a 60 year old woman who was trapped inside and badly burned. Both boys are tow truck drivers themselves.  In 1986 Tim joined the Towing and recovery Professionals of CT and became active from the start holding several officers positions and leading the association as President from 1994 to 2000. Not being able to sit by the sidelines Tim was once again elected President in 2010 where he continues to serve and rebuild the foundation of the TRPC. Tim was one of the founding members of the Conference of Northeast Towing Associations and serves on the board as their treasurer while working with other state leaders in New England on industry issues and problems shared across state lines.  Tim has been actively involved in leading the lobbying charge at the state Capitol on many issues including reforming the abandoned vehicle lien process, equipment and training standards and most recently was the driving force in getting CT to implement “The Move Over Law” including tow trucks as emergency vehicles. Since 1994 Tim has served on the Capital Region Council Governments TIMS Steering Task Force and the CT Statewide TIMS Task Force representing the towers voice both big and small.  Tim’s leadership within the industry in CT has resulted in the TRPC being recognized as one of the most active and largest State Towing Associations nationwide. Under his helm he is attributed with implementing and creating hands on training programs and certification for light and heavy duty operators, member benefit programs, and several rate increases for the non-consensual towers statewide via his tireless efforts at the State  Capital.

Innovation of a product sold in the marketplace that has helped move the industry forward. Candidate must have a minimum of 10 years of service to the industry.

Exemplary Dedication

Candidate must have 20 years running a towing business in an outstanding and exemplary manner, promoting a positive image of the towing industry and have positive relations with the community, i.e., performing services for the community about and beyond the services for hire. Limit: One inductee per year.

Industry Leadership

Leadership involved with an outstanding project that has had a dynamic and lasting effect on the towing industry. Candidate must have minimum 10 years service to the towing industry.

Professional Achievement

Creating a product or service of any kind that has had a significant and lasting effect on thousands of towing professionals. Candidate Must have a minimum of 10 years to the industry.
