Stephen B. Shinnick

Stephen B. Shinnick was born in London, England during the era of the WWII. In 1962 he went to work for the British Armed Forces; Royal Corps of Transport where he became involved in tank transporting and tank recovery.

In 1965 he went into business with a lifelong friend and started G & S . Motors in the North London Trading area. This was when he purchased his first recovery truck an Ex Military Austin K9 fitted with a 3 Ton Harvey Frost Crane. In 1968 they moved their business from London to Prestwood in Buckinghamshire.

After making the move Steve changed the name of the company to Prestwood Motors. Out of this location they were operating as a Ford Motor Company Dealer along with the recovery department. They were soon contacted by Thames Valley Police Automobile Association, RAC and Green Flag motoring organizations.

In 1981 the company joined Association of Vehicle Recovery Operators (“AVRO”) as a member. In 1998 Steve was elected as the National President of the A VRO and well as being elected at the National Council Member for Region 8. Steve is currently serving on the Management Board and National Council for AVRO.

In 1995 Steve was elected a Fellow of The Institute of Motor Industry as well as a Fellow of the Motor Industry.

Steve is presently Director of Prestwood Motors Ltd., Director of SBS Holdings Ltd., Director of AVRO Ltd., Director of Nationwide Car & Commercial Assiantace Ltd. and a Director of United Recovery Ltd.

Steve’s goal is to continue to help unite the towing & recovery industry in the United Kingdom and across the world.

Tow Equipment/Product Innovation

Innovation of a product sold in the marketplace that has helped move the industry forward. Candidate must have a minimum of 10 years of service to the industry.

Exemplary Dedication

Candidate must have 20 years running a towing business in an outstanding and exemplary manner, promoting a positive image of the towing industry and have positive relations with the community, i.e., performing services for the community about and beyond the services for hire. Limit: One inductee per year.

Industry Leadership

Leadership involved with an outstanding project that has had a dynamic and lasting effect on the towing industry. Candidate must have minimum 10 years service to the towing industry.

Professional Achievement

Creating a product or service of any kind that has had a significant and lasting effect on thousands of towing professionals. Candidate Must have a minimum of 10 years to the industry.
