Karl G. Ögren

Karl Gustav’s early career was spent in his machine workshop, called The Karl Gustav Mekaniska Verstad, producing custom built trailers for the forestry and construction industry. He introduced the concept of gooseneck trailers to Sweden in this workshop, and in the mid 1960’s was asked by a towing operator, a personal friend of his, to build a heavy duty underreach, interpreting current European design but incorporating several changes the operator had in mind. Thus introduced to the towing and recovery market, Karl Gustav began building towing equipment in earnest.

When his son Hans came on board after completing his engineering studies, a marketing company, called Bro Wreckers, was created to provide an easily pronounceable name for the growing export sales. In 1976, he sold the company to his son, remaining as a member of the Board, and then retired in 1979 to Kristinehamn, where he still lives. Over his career, he introduced many new designs, including important world patents for the lifting mechanism on under-reach towing equipment, and is today one of the industry’s early great names in towing equipment, in Europe for all sizes of equipment, in America for the heavy duty under-reach.

Karl Gustav Ogren is one of the pioneers to the towing-recovery industry whose contributions are felt in an ever increasing manner.
