Ann Mary Malcolm
Ann Malcolm was one half of a typical man and wife partnership that went into the service station and towing business in the postwar years. Together, she and “Chick” built one of the most successful towing businesses in the industry, specializing in all phases of recovery, towing and transportation. But Mrs. “M” was not just a dispatcher. She often drove a two truck up the canyon when Chick was busy on another job. Indeed, she has been an active partner in every phase of building Malcolm Services to what it is today. Also, Mrs. “M” organized WTRAA in Albuquerque, serving as it’s charter President for two years and later, as Treasurer for one term. She started the Scholarship Fund which she Chaired for three years and TRAA recognized her as TOW WOMAN OF THE YEAR. The New Mexico Motor Carriers Association Auxiliary picked her as its President for two terms, and she was the only woman ever to serve on a standing committee of that association.
But aside from all of these prestigious accolades, Ann Malcolm deserves our particular admiration and respect for taking over, and successfully operating a struggling towing business when her husband and partner Chick, was unexpectedly hospitalized for many arduous months with a serious back injury. Assisted by their young son, David, Ann did it all to keep Malcolm Services operating.
Mrs. “M”, as she is known by those who love and hold her dearest, has answered the call to duty many times over the years on behalf of our industry and deserves the very best we have to offer.
